Architectural detail — feature walls, fireplaces, and one-of-one tile builds.
Some projects need a system. Others need a statement. Custom tile features are the architectural moves that turn a beautiful home into a memorable one — built to the same engineering standard as our shower systems.
What it is
Custom tile features are the architectural moments inside a home — a fireplace surround that runs to the ceiling, a slab feature wall behind a primary bed, a custom mosaic in an entry foyer, or a tile media wall with integrated lighting.
They are also the projects where the difference between a tile installer and a tile systems specialist is most visible. Mitered edges, hidden seams, and perfectly aligned grout lines are not luck — they are spec and method.
Why a system matters
Anyone can stick tile to a wall. What separates a custom feature is what happens at every edge, every transition, and every penetration. The mitered return at a fireplace box, the recessed channel behind a TV mount, the lighting trough at the head of a feature wall — those are the moves that read as designed instead of installed.
Mitered edges
Stone and porcelain edges mitered to a 45-degree return — no exposed tile body, no metal trim profile, no caulked corner. The way premium millwork meets, executed in tile.
Integrated lighting
LED channels, niche lighting, and accent washes integrated into the feature wall during construction — never retrofit. We coordinate with your electrician on rough-in.
Substrate-up planning
Feature walls often hide mounts, channels, or speakers. We frame in blocking, run conduit, and detail the substrate before any tile sets — so the install is invisible and the feature is permanent.

FAQ
Yes — we work with heat-rated setting materials and respect the manufacturer-required clearances around the firebox. We coordinate with the fireplace installer on rough-in and trim plate details before any tile sets.
Yes. We frame the wall with proper blocking for TV mount load and any AV components, run conduit for power and data, and dry-fit the tile around the planned TV bezel before setting. The result reads as one continuous feature, not "TV on top of tile."
Yes. We layout and dry-fit complex patterns, herringbone, chevron, hand-cut accents, and custom-cut mosaic before any tile sets. We will sample-board the layout for approval if the pattern is complex.
Custom features typically run 1 to 3 weeks depending on scope. Larger features with slab material, integrated lighting, or coordinated trade work may take longer to schedule. Every project gets a firm timeline in the proposal.
